Culture and Mental Health

 Pathways to heal

If you are a silent survivor, you may feel isolated in your feelings. The information shared in the series of Culture and Mental Health is to help you know that you are not alone.

The first path to healing is to tell someone your truth.

That could be as simple as speaking to a “trusted” professional who will believe you. This can be through helpline or through your networks such as (GP, teacher, mentor) at first.

Also expressing your truth can be healing through creative expressive pathways such as writing, running, dancing, art, music.

Express yourself in a way that would help release the effects of trauma trapped in your body. Here are some reading resources to begin with - The Body Keeps the Score, The Body Remembers.

Whatever your age you are the right age to tell, tell until you can’t tell anymore.

It won’t take away what happened to you, but it will re-map your life and take away the power from the event/experiences.

Story-telling is a powerful way to help tell your truth to heal and for others to listen to your truth.

I am embarking on a story-telling project about South Asian Culture and PTSD. This project aims to bring together stories who are telling their truths and healing - stories for both the silent survivor and for the lost family!

I'm always here to listen to your stories. You can write your story to Prathiba here.
